Is the Bible Really True?

This discussion of God, Heaven and Hell is all well and good, but if the Bible is not true then it is all a moot point. What evidence is there that the Bible is true?

Scientific Evidence

First, there is scientific evidence. Thousands of years before scientists learned certain truths, the Bible documented these truths in its writings. How could men have written down these truths before they were known by the scientific community unless the book were divinely inspired? Let’s look at a few examples of scientific truths written in the Bible thousands of years before scientists figure these things out:

  1. BulletThe earth is a sphere (Isaiah 40:22)

  2. BulletInnumerable stars (Jeremiah 33:22)

  3. BulletFree float of earth in space (Job 26:7)

  4. BulletCreation made of invisible elements (Hebrews 11:3)

  5. BulletEach star is different (1 Corinthians 15:41)

  6. BulletLight moves (Job 38:19-20)

  7. BulletAir has weight (Job 28:25)

  8. BulletWinds blow in cyclones (Ecclesiastes 1:6)

  9. BulletBlood is the source of life and health (Leviticus 17:11)

  10. BulletOcean floor contains deep valleys and mountains (2 Samuel 22:16, Jonah 2:6)

  11. BulletOcean contains springs (Job 38:16)

  12. BulletWhen dealing with disease, hands should be washed under running water (Leviticus 15:13)

Prophetic Evidence

Second, there is prophetic evidence. Starting in the book of Genesis and proceeding throughout the old testament there is prophecy of God sending a savior. Throughout the course of the Bible, this prophecy becomes more and more clear. In the New Testament of the Bible it is revealed that Jesus is the prophesied Messiah. In fact, it is not possible for any other to fulfill the prophecy. The prophecy of Christ includes:

  1. BulletGod’s promises a savior to Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:15)

  2. BulletGod promises a sign (Isaiah 7:14, Isaiah 9:6)

  3. BulletProphecy of the death of Christ (Isaiah 53)

  4. BulletChrist’s birth is fulfilled (Luke 2:9, 11)

  5. BulletGod’s timing was perfect (Galatians 4:4-5)

There is also other prophecy in the Bible besides just that of Christ. The thing about the prophecy in the Bible is that it has come true. Therefore we can trust that the remaining things in the Bible are true. Specifically we can know that God is real, heaven and hell exist and that all men will go to hell unless they repent of their sins and put their trust in the savior. Please read the Gospel message for more information.

Historical Evidence

There is also historical evidence that the Bible is true. The most commonly recognized books The Illiad and The Odyssey by Homer have a mere 500 original manuscripts. These are considered to be historically accurate. The Bible has an amazing 20,000 original manuscripts. These manuscripts verify that the same message of the Bible has been consistent over thousands of years.

The New Testament is too embarrassing to be false

One of the ways to prove historical accuracy of a writing is if the writing is embarrassing to the authors. Please watch the video below to see how Frank Turek, author of “I don’t have enough faith to be an atheist”, explains this aspect of historical accuracy.

Investigation

Finally, many people have investigated the claims of the Bible with the purpose of disproving it. Notably Lee Strobel, a professing atheist at the time, researched the claims of the Bible to disprove it. Instead of disproving it, Lee Strobel was so convinced of the evidence that he had no choice by to believe the Bible to be true himself. You can read about his investigation in his best selling book “The Case for Christ”. I invite you to examine the evidence in this book or in the DVD by the same title.  We may have some copies that we can provide you by requesting it here.

One Heartbeat Away

Mark Cahill makes a compelling argument to back up these thoughts in his book “One Heartbeat Away”. You can request a copy of the book from his website. Sometimes we have copies of these books in stock. You may make a request here.
